KITAN CLUB – SPECIAL ISSUE
KITAN CLUB – SPECIAL ISSUE
Akatsuki Shuppan, Osaka, c. late 1960s / early 1970s
A rare standalone issue from the underground world of Kitan Club.
Published as a rinji zōkan-gō (special edition), this volume exists outside the regular monthly sequence—an autonomous object dedicated to a more focused and explicit visual theme. Centered on kinbaku imagery, the book brings together staged photographs that explore restraint, performance, and erotic tension within a distinctly Japanese aesthetic framework.
The graphic design is minimal yet striking: bold typography, flat color fields, and a cover that contrasts restraint and exposure. Inside, the images oscillate between documentation and stylization, revealing a visual culture that operates between tradition, fetish, and postwar underground publishing.
Printed by Akatsuki Shuppan, this special issue reflects a moment when magazines like Kitan Club functioned as vehicles for alternative expression—circulating imagery and narratives largely excluded from mainstream media.
A scarce and culturally charged artifact, bridging photography, erotica, and print subculture.
